The Illinois Railway Museum expands its 2007 operating season in May. The Museum is located in Union, Illinois, northwest of Chicago near I-90, and conveniently located near Chicago, Madison, Milwaukee and Rockford.

During May, weekend train operation will include electric and diesel passenger trains. Our demonstration railroad includes a one-mile trolley loop around the property and a five-mile mainline. During May weekdays through May 25 the buildings and grounds will be open to visitors, with weekday electric car operation beginning on May 29.

We will have four Special Events in May with special trains and activities. May 5 is our Scrap-A-Train Day where the first 250 paying adults will receive a coupon for a make-and-take project featuring a train-themed scrapbook page. May 13 is Mother's Day, all Moms admitted free if accompanied by at least one fare-paying individual. May 19 is Scout day, Boy and Girl Scout troops participate in a day-long event. May 26, 27 and 28 celebrates Memorial Day and the Memorial Day weekend.

During June, July, and August, electric cars will operate on weekdays, with electric and diesel operations on weekends.

Daily train operation continues through Labor Day weekend, with weekend operation through the end of October. The buildings and grounds will be open on weekdays through September. Additional trains run on several Special Event weekends during the year.

Your admission ticket entitles you to an unlimited number of train rides, as well as our several barns with over two miles of indoor track, and our collection of over 400 pieces of railroad rolling stock. Your membership includes admission to the Museum, a subscription to Rail & Wire, and more.

The Illinois Railway Museum is an independent volunteer operation, relying on admission fees, membership dues, and contributions. It is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit educational corporation. Schedules and operating equipment subject to change without notice.
