The Chicago, Burlington & Quincy 504, an operating EMD SD24, was brought into
the diesel shop in February 2002. Currently in BN paint as 6244, this SD will
soon be restored to Q paint. The first steps will be back dating the steps
on all four corners, replacing a couple patches to some rusted steel around
the short hood, and moving some of the sill doors to their correct locations.
The photos below show much of the progress to date, the photos are displayed
with the most recent near the top to the earliest near the bottom.
The handrails and cut levers will be added and the final coats of paint will applied once the rest of the loco is ready.

The steps were also painted and bolted into place.

The new bottom section of the pilot was primed and painted, inside and out, along with the step wells and end of the loco. Everything was then bolted together.

Most of the rear pilot is assembed and mounted. The footboard supports need to be drilled and kick plates mounted.
