Join us on Sunday, June 2, 2013 for a trip back to the 60's. On that day, The Illinois Railway Museum (IRM) is sponsoring a rail fan excursion on the Chicago "L". The equipment being used on this rail fan trip is a four car train of the 2200 series "L" cars. These cars are the last 1960's rolling stock on the CTA still in revenue service. There are only a handful of these cars still in operating service as they are in the process of being phased out by the summer of 2013. It is anticipated that this will be the last IRM fan trip utilizing these unique and durable cars. Many these cars have logged more than 2 million miles in their 40+ years of faithful service on the CTA. So come and join us for this once in a lifetime experience. Who knows, you may be a lucky raffle winner or recipient of a surprise gift. You are strongly advised to buy your tickets in advance.
Departure: Our specially chartered train will leave out of the Rosemont Blue Station at 8:00am. We will travel over parts of nearly every line, which includes the Blue, Pink, Green, Red, Purple, Yellow and Orange Lines. Perhaps even a surprise or two of non-revenue trackage. During the trip, we will have approximately 1 hour in the Loop for a lunch stop. Our chartered train will conclude its trip at around 5:00pm at the Rosemont Station.
Fare: $55.00 per person. Orders received after 12:00pm on May 24 will be held for pickup at Rosemont. All ticket sales are final, no exchanges or refunds. Parking is available at the Rosemont Station for $5.00.
Lunch: One hour will be given for lunch on your own at stops around the Loop; a list of suggested restaurants will be provided.
The 2200-series cars are not wheelchair-accessible.
Specific equipment CANNOT be guaranteed and is subject to change by the CTA.
This "Back to the 60's" charter is a fundraiser to preserve a pair of 2200-series cars.
