07.19.09 - THE ENDS OF THE CUT PIECES WERE GROUND TO A BEVEL SO THAT A FULL PENETRATION WELD COULD BE MADE. THEY WERE THEN CLAMPED INTO A PIECE OF ANGLE IRON IN THE PROPER POSITON, SO THAT THE JAWS WOULD ALIGN WITH THE BRAKE LEVERS, FOR WELDING.

07.26.09 - THE CLEVIS PIN CONNECTING THE BOTTOM ROD TO THE BRAKE LEVER WAS MOVED TO THE OUTER HOLE, SO THAT THE BRAKE SHOE WOULD BE PROPERLY POSTIONED ON THE WHEEL.  AFTER THIS, THE CAR WAS TAKEN OUT ON THE MAIN LINE FOR THE FIRST TIME AND THE BRAKES AND AXLE JOURNALS FUNCTIONED CORRECTLY.

07.29.09 - THE DEAD LEVER PIVOT POINT WAS MOVED ONE HOLE CLOSER TO THE TRUCK BOLSTER IN ORDER TO REDUCE THE PISTON TRAVEL.  AFTER THIS CHANGE, THE BRAKES WERE TESTED AGAIN AND THE TRAVEL WAS AN ACCEPTABLE 7 3/4 INCHES.  THE CAR WAS RELEASED FOR REVENUE SERVICE AND WAS MOVED OUT TO YARD 14 TODAY.
