NOTE: Due to the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic, the event has been postponed and is now Sunday, November 22, 2020. All tickets previously purchased for the June date will be still valid for the new date.
The 10th Annual Steam Department Benefit at the Sanfilippo Estate has a new date: it will be on Sunday, November 22, 2020 at 1:00pm. The afternoon will feature a concert in the Estate’s Music Theatre on one of the world’s largest theater pipe organ. The original theater organ, a 1927 Wurlitzer from the Omaha Theater in Nebraska, has been expanded and now controls 8,000 pipes, percussions and sound effects. As part of the event, the classic silent movie Big Business, starring Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy as Christmas tree salesmen, will be shown with live accompaniment on the Mighty Wurlitzer Theatre Pipe Organ!
The Sanfilippo Estate, nicknamed Place de la Musique, is a 55,000 square foot private residence filled with magnificent collections of beautifully restored antique music machines, phonographs, arcade and gambling machines, chandeliers, art glass, the world’s largest restored theatre pipe organ, street and clock towers, steam engines and other functional mechanical antiques, displayed within a breathtaking French Second Empire setting. Step into a Parisian streetscape with the new Perfume Passage. Visit the Carousel Pavilion to see and hear several fairground organs, and take a ride on the Eden Palais, the most spectacular European salon carousel in existence. In addition, several restored steam engines will be on display. The Estate, owned by Jasper Sanfilippo, former CEO of the parent company of Fisher Nuts, hosts charities holding fundraisers through the Sanfilippo Foundation.
Proceeds from this event will benefit the Illinois Railway Museum Steam Department.
Doors will open at 1:00pm on Sunday, November 22nd, at which time guests will be able to tour the Residence and its collections. Docents will be throughout the Estate to demonstrate many of the instruments for your enjoyment. The concert will begin at 2:15pm. No food or drink is permitted inside the Estate. There will be a 50/50 drawing and door prizes, a raffle for a cab ride on Frisco 1630 or the Shay, and a raffle for throttle time on Frisco 1630. In addition, brochures from the Estate will be available for purchase and 50% of the proceeds will be donated to IRM. Attire is business casual.
Tickets, which must be purchased in advance, are $69.99 per person. NO TICKETS WILL BE AVAILABLE AT THE DOOR. Tickets will be processed and mailed in bulk. Your order may take several weeks to arrive. If ordered by November 8th, you will receive your tickets and directions to the Private Estate via US Mail before the event date.
