Run the Rails
Discover the Illinois Railway Museum in a whole new way with the museum's first 5K/10K! Run along the rails, alongside impressive locomotives, and through areas usually off limits to the public. The Railrunner supports IRM's ongoing efforts in preservation, restoration, and education.
This event is perfect for the whole family! Bring your cheering section and then stick around for a day exploring the museum's campus, including unlimited train and streetcar rides. Young runners can also get in on the action by participating in the kids' Dash to the Depot.
About the Route
Dash to the Depot
Start the day by cheering on your family's youngest runner! Kids are invited to participate in the 400-yard Dash to the Depot. The Dash is recommended for children ages 10 and under. All participants receive a finisher award.
Registration fee: $15
Start time: 8:00 AM
5K/10K
The Railrunner route takes place entirely on the museum's exciting railroad campus. Run down IRM's Central Ave, along the streetcar line tracks, past the 1851 Depot, and even through IRM's locomotive barn! Runners who opt for the 10K will complete two loops of the route. This course offers ample opportunities for your cheering section to watch, while also enjoying all that IRM has to offer.
Register early to enjoy Early Bird pricing!

Running for the Future
The Railrunner 5K/10K is part of IRM's Tracks to Tomorrow campaign. Tracks to Tomorrow is our call to invest in the future of history, ensuring generations to come can experience, learn, and be inspired by the power of the rails. The direct result of the Tracks to Tomorrow campaign will be a brand-new Visitors Center Entrance Building. The Visitors Center will be the literal and symbolic gateway to the Illinois Railway Museum. The Entrance Building is designed as a two-story, 36,000 square-foot hub that includes: interactive exhibits telling the story of innovation and community, educational classrooms for school and group programs, climate-controlled gallery space, and consolidated operations for efficiency and sustainability.
