Equipment Information
AAR X-201 and X-202 comprise a two-unit Rail Detector Car. One car carries magnetic detection equipment that is used to identify minute or invisible cracks or other failures in the railroad track itself. The other car has bunks and rudimentary facilities for the unit’s crew. The two-unit set is self-propelled and would travel along different railroads, testing for potential problems with the railroad tracks.
