C&NW X261709 is a steam-powered pile driver. It was designed to be hauled to a work site by a locomotive, where its boom would be unfolded and the pile driver apparatus employed to drive poles into the ground. Pile drivers like this were used for constructing trestles and installing telephone poles along the railroad. This example was based out of Chadron, Nebraska, for the later portion of its long career.
