Alco 1941
Grand Trunk Western 6323B
Description:Tender, Class U (Vanderbilt)

Equipment Information

GTW 6323B is a “Vanderbilt” style steam locomotive tender. It was originally semi-permanently coupled to a steam engine and would carry water and coal to supply the engine itself. This tender was later used as a water car after steam engines on the GTW were retired.

COMPARE ME WITH: IC W4150, an older “standard” type tender. Tender 6323B is known as a “Vanderbilt” type because it has a cylindrical water tank with the coal bunker sitting atop it, rather than a square water tank with the coal bunker in the middle as on a standard locomotive tender.
