Description:Ex-PRR Position Light

Equipment Information

The Pennsylvania Railroad was known for extensive use of position light (PL) signals. These arranged white lights in a circle, with the illuminated lights indicating the same positions as a semaphore signal: typically, a horizontal row for “stop,” diagonal row for “approach” (slow), and a vertical row for “clear” (proceed). This type of signal was standard on the PRR starting in the 1940s.
