Bordens Milk (BFIX) 520
|Description:||BMT Steel Milk Car|
Bordens 520 is arguably the most iconic freight car preserved at the museum. It is a “butter dish” milk car, so called because of its unusual Art Deco-inspired shape. It was designed for hauling fresh milk inside of large stainless-steel tanks.
COMPARE ME WITH: GPEX 1021, a milk car built for identical use some ten years later. The more utilitarian GPEX car looks much like a boxcar on the outside, unlike the stylish Bordens car.
