Railroad Passenger and Baggage Cars
Chicago Burlington & Quincy 993
Description: | Streamlined Baggage |
Equipment Information
Burlington 993 is a streamlined baggage car. Cars like this were hauled in passenger trains and were used for carrying passengers’ luggage, express freight, and other less-than-car-load (LCL) shipments. This car was built in the railroad’s own shops in Havelock, Nebraska. Shortly after Amtrak took over intercity passenger service in 1971, this car was assigned to maintenance-of-way service as a tool car and given the number 976090, which it wore on the Burlington Northern until it was retired. It was donated to IRM by Gateway Rail Services in 2009 and restored by IRM volunteers in 2010-2012.
