Equipment Information

Chicago & North Western (CGW) 4061 is an all-steel combine, or combination passenger-baggage car. It was used for local service on the Chicago Great Western system in Illinois and Iowa. Cars like this were common on railroads, particularly on more lightly used lines where a full baggage car was unnecessary to carry express freight and passengers’ luggage. This car was built for the Chesapeake & Ohio Railroad as their number 471. The C&O sold the car to the CGW in 1954. It later entered work service, first as CGW W285 and then as Chicago & North Western (CGW reporting marks) 4061, and it was used by railroad crews until retirement.
