Equipment Information

C&NW 8202 is a streamlined Railway Post Office/express/baggage car. Cars like this were hauled in passenger trains and were used for carrying passengers’ luggage, express freight, and other less-than-car-load (LCL) shipments. This car was also fitted with an RPO section for carrying mail. It was built for the Flambeau 400, a C&NW train that ran between Chicago and Ashland, in far northern Wisconsin, via Green Bay.

FUN FACT: If you’re a longtime IRM visitor, then you’ve probably been inside this baggage car many times. From the early 1980s until 2017, it was parked next to the East Union Depot and served as our gift shop!
