Railroad Passenger and Baggage Cars

Chicago Rock Island & Pacific 2612
Description: | Commuter Coach |
Equipment Information
Rock Island 2612 is an all-steel, open-platform commuter coach. Intended to carry commuters between Chicago and the southwest suburbs, it was designed with high seating capacity and open platforms to speed loading.
FUN FACT: Of the six identical Rock Island commuter cars preserved at IRM, this is the only one with its own name. When it came to the museum in 2013 from a tourist line in Iowa, it wore a gaudy yellow and red paint job and prominently bore the name “Henrietta” on its side. For a year or so, until it was restored to original condition by our volunteers, it operated at our museum as the “Henrietta.”
