Equipment Information

Chicago Surface Lines 1374 is a “Matchbox,” so nicknamed because it was a small streetcar by Chicago standards. At one time more than 300 cars identical to this ran throughout Chicago, mostly on lightly-traveled lines that did not enter the Loop. Car 1374 was converted to a salt spreader in the late 1940s and IRM volunteers spent some 15 years in the 1970s and 1980s restoring it to its condition while in regular operation in Chicago.
