Milwaukee Road 1603
Description:Diesel-Electric HH-660

Equipment Information

Milwaukee Road 1603 is a diesel switching locomotive designed to move freight cars around railroad yards at low speed. It is one of the older diesel switchers and the only HH-series (“High Hood”) switcher preserved at IRM.

COMPARE ME WITH: Armco B-71, a “Visibility Cab” switcher built a few years earlier than 1603. HH-series locomotives like 1603 were a direct outgrowth of the “Visibility Cab” design but advancements in technology made them more powerful and reliable, leading to far greater sales.
