This car is a standard railroad flat car built for utility or freight service. It is fitted with stake pockets for affixing vertical stakes or removable wooden sides to the car so it could carry bulk commodities. The car was acquired from Commonwealth Edison but its history is uncertain. One of its trucks was lettered for New York Central 498136, so IRM has assigned it that number, but the NYC never owned a flat car of this type.
