Trains & Tunes Concert Series
Spend a summer evening where history meets live music at the Illinois Railway Museum. Our Trains & Tunes Concert Series combines the excitement of operating historic trains with the fun of an outdoor concert under the stars.
Start your day exploring the museum’s demonstration railroad and riding vintage trains and streetcars from across the Midwest. As the sun begins to set, make your way to the grassy area behind the Central Diner for a relaxed outdoor concert featuring bands performing rock, country, and blues.
Bring your lawn chairs or blankets and settle in for an evening of music surrounded by historic railroad equipment and the sounds of trains in motion. Guests are welcome to pack a picnic dinner or enjoy food from onsite vendors while the band takes the stage.
Trains continue running throughout the day, and streetcars provide convenient transportation around the museum grounds into the evening. It’s a unique way to experience the museum — ride historic railcars, explore the exhibits, and then relax with live music in a beautiful outdoor setting.
Whether you’re a railroad enthusiast, a music fan, or simply looking for a fun summer night out, Trains & Tunes offers a one-of-a-kind combination of history, entertainment, and community.

He's back! Kick off Labor Day weekend with an evening of rails and blues from IRM favorite Stephen Hull. Blues band The Stephen Hull Experience takes the stage at 7:00 PM. Stephen Hull started playing blues at the tender age of 14 and never stopped, taking cues from Albert King and B.B. King as he developed his sweet, soulful guitar sound. Balancing that with his absolutely stellar lead vocals and infectiously buoyant personality, Stephen has been rising fast in the world of blues music.
When he’s not traveling the world, Stephen volunteers his time at the Illinois Railway Museum! This Labor Day weekend he trades his overalls for a guitar and brings his soulful tunes to the rails.
