Description: | Covered Hopper Type 4750 |
Equipment Information
ICG 767253 is a covered hopper known as a “type 4750” car. Covered hoppers were designed to carry grain, sugar, and other fine materials that must be protected from the weather. The 4750 design owed its designation to its capacity of 4,750 cubic feet. It was one of the most popular and successful covered hopper designs of the 20th century, with more than 56,000 examples produced between 1972 and 1981. This car is the only type 4750 hopper car preserved in operational condition.
