The Museum is pleased to announce that its latest storage building has been completed and was approved for occupancy on Friday, April 17th. This building, formally known as the Bob Bourne Transit Building, was constructed as part of the RAIL Project. Initial planning and fundraising were done by the Motor Bus and Trolley Bus Departments, with engineering work and project management coordinated by the Buildings & Grounds Department. The structure was funded entirely by donations and sales at the Bus Stop Shop. The building will be used to store motor buses, trolley buses, and spare parts.
With the completion of the Bourne Building, IRM is able to put its entire collection of motor buses and trolley buses into covered storage. The Trolley Bus Department is currently soliciting funds for the restoration of Milwaukee trolley bus 269, a last-of-its-kind bus built in 1941 by the St. Louis Car Company.
