Trolley Weekend will highlight the electric railroads that once blanketed the Chicago area. Dozen of antique streetcars, interurban cars, and elevated railway cars will be providing rides to attendees. For the 2022 event, there will be a different theme each day:
- Saturday, July 2nd, ride an electric-powered passenger coach train or watch the overhead wire action from the cupola of our electric-powered caboose train. Interurban and rapid transit electric trains will also run.
- Sunday, July 3rd, take part in a reenactment of the abrupt end of service on the Chicago Aurora & Elgin on this date 65 years ago. Several trains will be swapped out for other trains at that time, affording you the opportunity to ride and photograph many different types of traction equipment throughout the day.
- Monday, July 4th, ride with us on steam and electric trains and see a rare sight at IRM: the operation of a demonstration freight train of historic restored freight cars, pulled by an electric locomotive.
