Railroad Passenger and Baggage Cars
Chicago Burlington & Quincy 225
Description: | Nebraska Zephyr Parlor Obs |
Equipment Information
CB&Q 225 “Juno” is one of the five cars that make up the Nebraska Zephyr streamlined train. It is a lounge-observation car and features high-back rotating lounge chairs as well as panoramic views out the back of the car. The “Juno” is articulated at its forward end, which means that it shares a truck with the car in front of it and cannot be uncoupled at that end. As built the train had two lounge cars, with another lounge car located just forward of the “Juno,” but the train was rebuilt in the early 1960s without its second lounge car.
FUN FACT: The Nebraska Zephyr and its locomotive, E5A 9911A, are some of the more famous movie stars at IRM. They were featured in the 1993 movie A League of Their Own, where the train was rechristened the “Oregon Zephyr.” The observation car “Juno” was especially visible in the movie, as it was the car ridden by stars Jon Lovitz and Geena Davis.
