Description:Automobile-Horse-Baggage Car

Equipment Information

C&NW 8784 is an all-steel baggage/horse/automobile car. This car would have been hauled in passenger trains and could be used as a standard baggage car, carrying passengers’ luggage, express freight, and other less-than-car-load (LCL) shipments. However, this car is unusual because it was built with special provisions for carrying prize horses, usually race horses. It originally had collapsible dividers inside the car for keeping horses separated during transport, accommodations for attendants accompanying the horses, and full-width end doors at one end so that the owners of the horses could transport their automobiles aboard the train.
