Rapid Transit Cars
Chicago Transit Authority 2243
Description: | Arch-roof stainless steel high-performance |
Equipment Information
Chicago Transit Authority 2243 is a stainless steel-bodied ‘L’ car built as part of the 2200-series of “high performance” elevated cars. The 2200s were built for service on the then-new Dan Ryan line, now the south end of the Red Line, but in later years were usually used on the Blue Line. They were the first CTA cars built out of stainless steel, a material used for all ‘L’ cars built since, and the last CTA cars built with “blinker” doors. Car 2243 is permanently coupled to identical car 2244 to form the only preserved set of 2200s.
