Internal Combustion Locomotives
Grand Trunk Western 1951
Description: | Diesel-Electric RS-1 |
Equipment Information
Grand Trunk Western 1951 is the last RS-1 type locomotive built for an American customer. The RS-1 was a pioneering diesel freight locomotive known as a “road switcher” and more than 450 were built between 1941 and 1960.
COMPARE ME WITH: Nekoosa Paper 14, an S-3 switcher built ten years earlier. The RS-1 was based on switchers like NP 14 but had a longer frame, a cab offset a bit from one end, and heavier trucks for higher-speed operation.
