Pennsylvania Railroad 8089 “Cascade Knoll” is a streamlined sleeping car. It is designed for long-distance accommodation and features private rooms that can be converted from daytime seating into nighttime bunks. It has a mix of 10 roomettes, small compartments intended for two occupants, and five double bedrooms, larger compartments that included a bathroom. “Cascade Knoll” was built for service on the Pennsylvania Railroad but was initially owned by Pullman and leased to the railroad before being sold to the PRR in 1945. After retirement from PRR service it was sold to the Army for use as a hospital car around the time the Vietnam War was at its height. Later the car was resold back to Amtrak before being permanently retired and sold into private ownership.
