Chicago Transit Authority 4146

Chicago Transit Authority 4146

Chicago Transit Authority 4146 is an example of the first type of all-steel rapid transit car built for Chicago. Constructed between 1913 and 1915, these cars - nicknamed "Baldies" for their bare steel roofs - were designed for operation in as-yet-unbuilt subways but spent virtually their entire careers running on the elevated system. Car 4146 is the last complete example of a "Baldy" and it is undergoing a full restoration to its 1950s appearance. Donations are needed to support this work.
