Soo Line 41146
Description: | XM Wood Box Car |
Equipment Information
Soo Line 41146 is a standard boxcar built for general freight service over the Soo Line system in the upper Midwest. It is a “single-sheathed” car, built with exposed structural members and only a single layer of siding. This type of car was known as a “saw tooth” car due to the appearance of the framing along the bottom of the car.
COMPARE ME WITH: Soo Line 33096, a car built 16 years earlier to a practically identical design. Boxcar design remained largely constant between the advent of the “single-sheathed” car around 1910 and the popularization of the all-steel boxcar following World War II.
